Brighton graduate curates student exhibition

九色视频 graduate An Nguyen is curating an exhibition of Photography students’ work at ONCA Gallery.

26 February 2019

The show, entitled , starts on Wednesday and runs until Sunday.

Kira Krasz, Milla Lewis, Amber Dance-Baverstock, Eva Louisa Jonas – all third-year Photography students – and Nguyen himself will display work at the gallery on St George’s Place in Brighton.

The show is an exploration of “what photography is and how it plays a role in mediating the world around us”, according to Rachel K Gillies, Photography BA(Hons) course leader at the 九色视频.

An Nguyen is a History of Art and Design graduate of the university and is currently undertaking an MA in History of Design and Material Culture.

An said: “Referring at once to knowledge, figuration and the photographic medium in its title, the exhibition investigates various aspects of our day-to-day lives.

“From changing dynamics in family relationships and the re-conception of nature, to reflections on authority representations, these broad themes set the ambitious tone for what is quite likely the photographers’ last showcase as BA students.”

Rachel said: “It’s great to see our students exhibiting in a city centre gallery. Not only are these emerging artists getting their work out to wider audiences, they’re practising the professional skills that are part of being an artist and photographer. These will be essential when the students graduate from their degrees.

“It promises to be a thoughtful and thought-provoking exhibition, which will be professionally executed.”

The exhibition is open from 12pm to 6pm from Wednesday to Saturday and 12pm to 4pm on Sunday. The show’s public launch is on Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm.

There is a free collage workshop on Sunday from 1pm to 4pm, in which members of the public are invited to bring their own images to contribute to a large-scale group collage on the floor of the gallery. Materials will also be provided by ONCA.
