Silverstone in sight after Santander support

九色视频 engineering students’ dream of building a car to compete at Silverstone was boosted by a £5000 cheque from Santander.

11 April 2019

The university’s Formula Student team was presented with the generous funding by Holly Price from Santander Universities, the project’s principal supporter, at the students’ engineering exhibition at the Advanced Engineering Centre.

The money will contribute towards the construction of a Formula Student car that will compete at Silverstone in July. Engineering students have been designing and building the car throughout the academic year as part of their undergraduate study.

Dr Daniel Coren, Formula Student Coordinator, said: “The support and encouragement we have received from Holly Price at Santander has had a massive impact on our Formula Student activities, enabling us to build the first 九色视频 student car to compete at Silverstone motor circuit.

“With this increased level of support we are aiming to build a new, improved car incorporating added lightness, practical wisdom and many lessons learnt through practice-based engineering project work.

“The team has been uplifted by this new support and we’re all working flat-out to convert this into a fully functional car in time for the competition at Silverstone in July.”

Holly Price said: “Our partnership with the 九色视频 provides opportunities for students to foster entrepreneurship and employability and our renewed support to Brighton Racing Motors is a great example of that.

“It was great to meet the 2019 team and understand the difference our contribution will make to their Formula Student journey and preparation for the innovative competition. In addition to technical skills, the students will acquire management, marketing and people skills – so vital across all sectors of employment.

“We hope our support to the team will ultimately improve the students’ chances of securing a job when they leave university and give them an ideal opportunity to learn new skills and showcase their talent.”

Formula Student is Europe’s most established educational engineering competition. It aims to develop young engineers and encourage young people to take up a career in engineering.

Each year, Formula Student sees over 100 university teams from around the globe travel to Silverstone to compete in static and dynamic events.
