Sir Bradley Wiggins visits Brighton academic's cycling exhibition

Tour De France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins paid a visit to Brighton academic Dr Marlon Moncrieffe’s exhibition about Black British cyclists.

27 June 2019

Dr Moncrieffe’s display ‘Made in Britain: Uncovering the Life-Histories of Black-British Champions in Cycling’ was on show at the Big Fete Velo at the Herne Hill Velodrome. It was originally hosted at the 九色视频.

Sir Bradley visited the London exhibition to pay homage to his early mentor Mr Russell Williams, who features in the show. Sir Bradley and Williams engaged in an open discussion at the Fete.

Dr Moncrieffe, senior lecturer in the School of Education, said: “Sir Bradley began to follow my research work in the run up to the December exhibition in Brighton. We spoke on Instagram messenger and he agreed with me to host a public discussion with Russell Williams, a cyclist featured in my study, and Sir Bradley's early mentor.

“He stuck to his word and showed deep respect to his early mentor in their conversation and tour of my exhibition of research. It was another wonderful endorsement of my research work.”

‘Made in Britain: Uncovering the Life-Histories of Black-British Champions in Cycling’, based on Dr Moncrieffe’s research at the university, tells the stories of black British cyclists through their oral testimonies, and use of photography and memorabilia.
