How can I improve my qualifications?

If you do not have the qualifications that you need to apply for the course, or your qualification is not of a high enough level, you can do a university preparation course at our on-campus 九色视频 International College (UBIC).

Make an application

There are multiple stages involved in applying to study in the UK. There is no set timeframe for each element as it will depend on everyone's individual application and circumstances.

We recommend that you apply as soon as possible, but definitely no later than two months before your course starts. Some courses are more competitive than others and will require you to apply earlier in the cycle to be considered.

Undergraduate study

If you are applying for a full-time undergraduate degree course such as BA(Hons) or BSc(Hons) or an undergraduate integrated masters (MSci, MPharm or MEng), you can make your application through the  (UCAS), or by applying directly to us.

UCAS

UCAS is a centralised application service for all UK universities. In the course finder you will see that our undergraduate courses all include a UCAS code that you will need for your application.

Direct

In some circumstances you can apply direct to us using our online application system, which you can access from the course page. Apply direct if:

  • you already know that you want to study at Brighton and do not intend to apply to other institutions
  • you hold a foundation degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) and you are applying for a top-up degree.

ATAS certificate

If you're applying for the following undergraduate engineering degrees, you'll also need to apply for an  (ATAS) certificate.

  • Aerospace Engineering MEng
  • Mechanical Engineering MEng

Postgraduate study

If you are applying for a full-time postgraduate course (eg MA, MSc, MBA) you should complete the online application form. You can access this from the course page by clicking apply now.

ATAS certificate

If you would like to undertake one of the following taught masters, you'll also need to apply for an  (ATAS) certificate:

  • Biological Sciences MRes
  • Chemistry MRes
  • Ecology and Conservation MRes
  • Pharmaceutical Sciences MRes
  • Biomedical Sciences MRes

Research study

If you are applying for a full-time research programme (MPhil, PhD) you should read our application guidance carefully.

You will need to find a suitable research supervisor to support your application and submit a detailed outline of your research proposal. After this, you will need to submit an online application form.

Receive your offer

  • If you have a conditional offer, you must meet the conditions detailed in your offer letter. The conditions might require you to achieve certain grades, to complete an English language test or provide a reference.
  • An unconditional offer means there are no more conditions for you to meet. You must formally accept your offer, via the applicant portal (Student View).
  • Whether you have a conditional or unconditional offer, you will still have to meet the English language requirements in order to be granted a student visa.
  • If you don't meet the English language requirements, you can study a pre-sessional English course to improve your language skills.

View our English language requirements

Deadlines you must meet

We want you to arrive in good time to start your studies. If you require a visa to study in the UK, there are more stages and checks that need to be completed.

We recommend you bookmark or print out the webpage, and make sure you meet the deadlines that apply to you. If you miss any of the deadlines, it could impact your ability to study at Brighton.

Explore our scholarships

We know that it can be expensive to study in another country, and that you have many costs to consider.

We have lots of different scholarships available to undergraduate and postgraduate international students, to make studying in the UK more affordable. Some of these you have to apply for, and others are applied automatically.

Pay your tuition fee deposit

Self-funded international students who require a UK visa to study at the university are required to pay a deposit in order for the university to issue a Confirmation for Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number, which is required in order to apply for a visa. International students can either pay their remaining tuition fees in full at the start of their course or in two instalments, in accordance with these deadlines.

January 2025 entry

If you are starting your course with us in January 2025 a deposit of £5,000* is required to be paid for the university to issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number.
You will need to pay your remaining tuition fees either in full at the start of your course, or in two instalments, by the deadlines below:

  • 50% of fee by 28 February 2025
  • Remaining balance to be paid by 31 May 2025.

September 2025 entry

If you are starting your course with us in September 2025 a deposit of £5,000 is required to be paid in order for the university to issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number, with remaining tuition fees to be paid either in full or instalments as follows:

  • 50% of fee by 31 October 2025
  • Remaining balance to be paid by 31 January 2026.

The deposit is subject to review, but the minimum amount of £5,000 will still apply

Please log into your  account to pay your deposit and follow the steps below:

  • Log into your Student View account
  • Select ‘Your offer’ in the left-hand menu
  • Then select ‘Information on your offer’ from the drop down list which appears
  • Click on the button ‘Pay your deposit’.

Request your CAS number

In order to apply for your visa, you will need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number from the university.

To request a CAS number you need to have been made an unconditional offer and firmly accepted it. You will then be able to complete the CAS questionnaire in the applicant portal (Student View).

Once you have your CAS number, you must use it to apply for your Student visa. This process can take some weeks, depending on which country you are applying from so make sure you read our visa application guidance:

  • Applying for a visa from outside the UK
  • Applying for a visa from within the UK

Find out more about requesting your CAS number

Arrange your accommodation

We recommend that you look for accommodation in Brighton, ideally close to the campus you'll be based on.

If you accept your academic offer and book your accommodation by the deadline we email you about, you will be guaranteed a place in university accommodation in the first year of your course. This applies to both undergraduate and postgraduate international students.

Alternatively, our accommodation office can provide guidance on finding private accommodation.

Apply for your student visa

The application process will vary between countries but at a minimum you will need to book an initial appointment, dates for which may not be immediately available. You will need to submit a range of documentation for assessment and wait for a decision which could take a few days or a couple of weeks. If your country offers a priority service, and you can afford to pay for it, then this might speed up part of the process. Remember that you can only travel once your visa has been issued.

Even if your course application is processed swiftly, and your CAS issued quickly, getting your visa can still take a few weeks. For this reason, if you have not applied at least two months before the start of the course, you will likely not have allowed enough time to complete the process. We therefore operate a cut-off date, after which we will not make any offers.

Read our student visa guidance

Last dates to receive your offer

You must submit your application in plenty of time for us to assess it, conduct an interview and verify your qualifications. We will not make any more unconditional offers or confirm a course place for you if you initially received a conditional offer after the following dates.

  • If you are applying for your visa from within the UK, the last date to receive your unconditional offer is three weeks before the course start date.
  • If you are applying for your visa from abroad and using a priority service, the last date to receive your offer is seven weeks before the course start date.
  • If you are applying for your visa from abroad and no priority service is available, the last date to receive your offer is ten weeks before the course start date.

Late starts or remote starts

The 九色视频 does not offer any courses that can be started online or remotely while you are waiting for your visa to be issued. We also do not normally allow late starts.

If you applied for your course and your CAS in good time, and received your unconditional offer/CAS before the cut-off dates, then it is your responsibility to apply immediately for your student visa. If there are delays with your visa or travel arrangements and you cannot arrive in time for your course start date, then you must contact us to explain your circumstances, and we will consider whether a late start is possible for you.

Some courses can't accommodate any missed teaching and learning, and no course will allow a student to start any later than four weeks into the programme. Please keep in touch with our visa team by emailing CASenquiries@brighton.ac.uk if you think you can't arrive in time, and do not travel unless we have confirmed that you can start late.

Join us for international orientation

Before the academic term begins, we hold orientation events to welcome new international students to the university.

Our in-person orientation programme typically includes campus tours, city tours and social events, designed to help you make friends and settle in.

We also host pre-arrival online sessions to help you prepare for your new student life and moving to the UK.

Once your place at 九色视频 is confirmed, we will send you an email inviting you to book your place on our orientation sessions.
