Brighton graduates win Emmy Award – again

A group of ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ graduates won their second Emmy Award for their animation work on a National Geographic film about North Korea.

2 October 2019

Peepshow, a collective of Brighton Illustration students who graduated in 1998/99, won the ‘Outstanding Graphic Design and Art Direction’ at the News and Documentary Emmy Awards.

Three members of the six-strong group – Pete Mellor, Miles Donovan and Luke Best – created all of the animated graphic sequences for ‘Inside North Korea’s Dynasty’, a four-part documentary series broadcast on the National Geographic television channel.

In 2015, Peepshow won an Emmy for ‘Outstanding Motion Design’ for their work on the PBS series ‘How We Got to Now’.

‘Inside North Korea’s Dynasty’ examines the history of the world’s only communist dynasty, telling the story of a family’s power through three generations. You can view a sample of Peepshows’ design for the programme on .

Reacting to the award, Pete, Miles and Luke said: “It’s an incredible honour to win our second Emmy. It was a huge challenge to illustrate the various stories about North Korea for which there was no archive, so we are especially happy to see the work recognised.

“This approach to problem-solving all started at the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ, where we all met on the BA Illustration course.”

Peepshow have represented the ‘best of British’ at expositions for the British Council and at the Museum of Modern Art in Japan. They have also exhibited their work at the ICA and the Hayward Gallery.
